Wooden furniture needs several types of cleaning to keep it secure and looking amazing

She recently wrote a blog article about a woman who refinished these gorgeous classic doors and turned them into headboards.  And rather than having to strip and sand the doors of the nasty paint job, she just painted them with an all in one oil primer.    Do not you just enjoy evolving technology??

There were a couple of different brands as well that I believe would also work.  Then I painted the kitchen table using the primer and let it dry.

Most wooden furniture receives a coating of varnish, polyurethane, or shellac prior to leaving the maker.  This process will help to protect it against wear and abuses.  These kinds of surfaces are well-suited to getting an application of a furniture wax to keep the end and add an additional layer of security.

I brought the table home and called up my mom who told me that I would need to resand the entire table before painting.   This seemed difficult, dull and just plain frightening.   I envisioned myself sanding the table so far down it would crack and then I would crack and shout for destroying it.   Not fun at all!

Now I just have to find the time to assemble it and place it in my own kitchen!

In precisely the exact same vein, water and wood are mortal enemies.  Should your wooden furniture become sticky or dirty, you will, of course, need to remove the elements that are offensive.  Under these circumstances, combine a little bit of dish soap and water and gently work it into the region until it's gone.  Immediately blot the section dry with a soft, clean towel.Furniture oils have long been a popular solution for families who adore solid wood furniture.  Nonetheless, these kinds of polishes are formulated to help furniture maintain a high gloss shine.  While the finish is appealing, it gets the furniture quite slippery and offers no true protection for the wood itself.

The guys at HD told me that I just needed to pay it and it did not matter whether it wasn't solidly painted...it only needs to be on there for another paint to stick to.

It is necessary to follow the manufacturer's directions to correctly apply the wax, otherwise it may lead to build-up or seem cloudy, temporarily marring the appearance of the wood.

Since I was feeling rather good about myself and my DIY capabilities, I decided I would tackle a project that has been sitting in my basement for the last few months, hammering me.  I bought a really nice solid pine kitchen table from UsedVic and I intended to repaint it to suit these new leather dining chairs I purchased (couldn't find any used however got them on super sale, naturally ).   I wouldn't normally even consider carrying on such a tricky DIY furniture challenge but that I simply can not stand the look of that flimsy, non-wood fabric that cheap dining places are created from these days.  They are so light my five year-old nephew Noah could probably hoist one over his head....he's pretty powerful anyways.

I can confidently walk into the Vancouver Island Mini Maker Faire this weekend with my head held high, knowing that I really do have a little DIY in me after all.    That is correct...painted it!   Plus it looks absolutely wonderful!

For best results, apply thin coats and carefully work each amount into the wood's surface.  Always work in the direction of the grain then enable the wax time to place.  When the wax has properly dried, then after that you can use a soft cloth to buff the wax into a brilliant glow.

I then painted over the primer and voila!

From time to time, it is essential to take care of your wooden furniture into a deep cleaning.  The easiest way to do this is by making use of an oil-based soap along with a little bit of water.  Apply a slight coating of this oil soap to your own table then wash it thoroughly and dry nicely.  If dirt and buildup still stays, it might be necessary to lightly wash the surface with steel wool enriched using a solvent designed to remove dirt, taking care to not scratch the wood or its end.

Did you know that you can make a cleaner that is one of the very best procedures for cleaning and protecting your prized wooden furniture?  To remove buildup, dust, and grime from the furniture, just make a combination of olive oil, denatured alcohol, gum turpentine, and lemon juice in equal portions.  Simply add a little of the mix into a cleansoft cloth and use it to buff your furniture to a gorgeous glow.

Wood can damage quite easily, so it's necessary to select a product that won't destroy the surface of your furniture.  For this end, it's never a fantastic idea to purchase a cleaner that is labelled as an"all purpose" solution.  It is usually too abrasive or contains compounds which are not friendly to timber.

I also bought some semi-gloss paint to match the leather chairs I purchased...you should either get semi-gloss or satin finish paint if you are redoing something that will see a lot of traffic like a kitchen table or coffee table.

Many businesses also produce disposable soft fabrics that are especially treated to clean hardwood surfaces.  The benefit to these kinds of fabrics is they attract and trap dirt, making them easy to use.  Most importantly; after you're finished cleaning, you can simply throw the cloth away.

Though dust appears to be innocent enough, it is an airborne particle that should not eliminated frequently may result in buildup on your wooden furniture, leaving unsightly scratches in the surface.

Though not as popular a choice, dusters made from lamb's wool are exceptionally effective at removing dirt from elaborate wooden pieces of furniture which could be difficult to wash.  Lamb's wool is often treated with as chemical known as lanolin which traps and retains dust.  A number of these types of cleaners can be attached to a handle, letting you clean high up bits like armoires or hutches.

Many families are attracted to it as it's attractive and functional, but it's also rather costly.  To make sure your furniture remains looking good as new, it is very important to learn how to care for it correctly.  Since water and wood are natural enemies, any dirt or stains that land on your wooden furniture must be removed without using water to defend the integrity of the finish and the wood itself.  But life is messy, along with your wood furniture will get dirty.  What's the safest way to wash good wood furniture?

If you take proper care of your new timber furniture, then it is going to last you a very long moment.  Yet many misconceptions exist concerning the appropriate way to wash this type of home décor.  As a beginning point, it's always wise to ask the salesperson at the time of purchase exactly what their recommendations are.  Salespeople are knowledgeable about the appropriate cleaning methods and alternatives that are safe for use on the exact item which you're bringing into your house, so they are your very best resource to consult with a beginning point.

Though many people used to make use of goods that contain linseed oil, turpentine, or coconut oil, we know that these substances will cause wood to intensify in color and will also bring dust or lint.  They may also potentially cause the finish on your wood furniture to dissolve, and thus, should be prevented.

Here are the types of cleaning you will need to do and some recommended cleaners and techniques for safely getting the job completed:

So last week I told about how I started exercising my DIY muscle and/or bone and attempted a couple super easy DIY jobs which were basically fail evidence.  My picture frames turned out beautifully and my watering can works good.

Could your wood furniture do with a cleaning?  Follow our top pointers to help keep it looking clean and new.  With a little bit of proper maintenance, your timber furniture can last a lifetime!

Feather dusters have been a beloved instrument for people wanting to liquefy dust from their furniture and other household furnishings.  They are an excellent tool to use on items which are fragile or difficult to clean using a cloth.

...a beautiful modern looking kitchen table brought to life from 1982!   It really can't get any easier than this.

The final products!  These babies look brand new now!

But do not take my word for this!   Otherwise, you'll have to wait until next week for the big show.  Joyful DIYing everyone!

Both soft fabrics made from older t-shirts and terry cloth towels can be used to remove dust from your wooden furniture safely.  For optimum results, soften the cloths very slightly.  The minimal amount of moisture causes the dirt to cling to the cloth.

It actually looks pretty good white!

 Awesome deal!

Well,  actually it was not totally voila (you may have noticed this is only one of the only french words I understand as I tend to use it a lot) as I had to go back to HD once to have them retint the paint as it had been a bit too mild to coincide with the chair.   But consider this!!  It matches the seats perfectly.   Woot!   Woot!  So excited!
