Good wood furniture

Now I can confidently walk in the Vancouver Island Mini Maker Faire this weekend along with my head held high, knowing that I do have a tiny DIY in me .    That's correct...painted it!   Plus it looks absolutely wonderful!

The men at HD explained that I only needed to pay it and it didn't matter if it was not solidly painted...it only needs to be around there for the next paint to stick to.

But don't take my word for this!  If you're anywhere near Victoria, BC  this weekend, then come say hello to us  and see for yourself.  Otherwise, you'll need to wait until next week for the big reveal.  Happy DIYing everyone!

In precisely the same vein, wood and water are mortal enemies solid oak tabletop.  If your wooden furniture become dirty or tacky, you may, of course, need to eliminate the offensive elements.  Under these conditions, combine a little bit of dish soap and water and gently work it into the region until it's gone.   Nonetheless, these types of beams are devised to help furniture keep a high gloss shine.  While the end is appealing, it makes the furniture quite slippery and provides no true protection for the wood itself.

I just have to get the time to build it and put it in my own kitchen!

Though dust appears to be innocent enough, it is an airborne particle which if not removed frequently may result in buildup in your wooden furniture, leaving unsightly scratches in the surface.  There are many distinct things you can use to eliminate dust from your favourite wooden sofa, chair, end table, or dining room collection.

From time to time, it's necessary to treat your wooden furniture to a cleaning.  The simplest way to do so is by taking advantage of an oil-based soap along with a small amount of water.  Apply a small coating of this oil soap to your own table then rinse it thoroughly and wash nicely.  If dirt and buildup still remains, it might be necessary to lightly wash the surface with steel wool enhanced with a solvent designed to remove dirt, taking care not to scratch the timber or its finish.

It actually looks pretty great white!

Many households are attracted to it because it is attractive and functional, but it's also quite costly.  To be certain that your furniture remains looking good as new, it's important to understand how to care for it properly.  Since water and wood are natural enemies, any stains or dirt that property on your wooden furniture has to be eliminated without the use of water to defend the integrity of the finish and the wood itself.  But life is messy, along with your wood furniture is going to get dirty.  What's the safest way to wash good wood furniture?

Although not as popular a choice, dusters made from lamb's wool are highly effective at removing dirt out of elaborate wooden pieces of furniture that can be tricky to wash.  Lamb's wool is often treated with as substance known as lanolin which traps and holds dust.  A number of these kinds of cleaners could be attached to a handle, allowing you to wash high up pieces like armoires or hutches.

So last week I told about how I started exercising my DIY muscle and/or bone and attempted a couple of super easy DIY jobs which were basically fail evidence.  My image frames turned out beautifully and my watering can works great.

Taking Care of Solid Wood Furniture

Well,  actually it wasn't totally voila (you may have noticed this is only one of the only real words I know as I tend to use it a lot) as I had to return to HD after to have them retint the paint as it had been a bit too light to match the seat.   But look at this!!  It matches the chairs flawlessly.   Woot!   Woot!  So excited!

There were a couple of other brands too that I believe would also work.  Then I painted the kitchen table using the primer and allow it to dry.

...a beautiful modern looking kitchen table brought to life again from 1982!   It actually can not get any simpler than this.

Though many people used to take advantage of products which contain linseed oil, turpentine, or coconut oil, we now know that these compounds will lead to wood to intensify in color and will also bring lint or dust.  They can also potentially cause the finish on your wood furniture to dissolve, and thus, should be avoided.

Since I had been feeling quite good about myself and my DIY abilities, I decided I'd tackle a project that has been sitting in my cellar for the past couple of months, hammering me.  I purchased a really fine solid pine kitchen table out of UsedVic and that I planned to repaint it to match these new leather dining chairs I bought (couldn't find any used but acquired these on super sale, of course).   I would not normally even think about carrying on such a catchy DIY furniture challenge but I just can not bear the look of that flimsy, non-wood material that affordable dining places are created out of these days.  They're so light my five year old nephew Noah could probably hoist one over his mind....he's pretty strong anyways.

The final products!  These babies look brand-new now!

Can your wood furniture do using a cleaning?  Follow our top pointers to help keep it looking clean and new.  Having just a little bit of proper maintenance, your timber furniture may last a lifetime!

Here are the types of cleaning you will need to do along with a few advocated cleaners and techniques for getting the job done:

In the event you opt to apply wax into your own furniture, be sure to select one that's been specifically designed for use on wood.  Waxes do not need regular application.

Many companies also manufacture disposable soft fabrics that are especially treated to clean hardwood surfaces.  The benefit to these types of fabrics is they attract and trap dirt, making them simple to use.  Best of all; after you are finished cleaning, you may just throw away the cloth.

Wood can damage very easily, so it's necessary to select something which will not destroy the surface of your furniture.  To this end, it's never a fantastic idea to purchase a cleaner that is tagged as an"all purpose" solution.  It is generally too abrasive or contains chemicals which are not favorable to timber.

It is necessary to follow the manufacturer's directions to correctly use the wax, otherwise it might cause build-up or seem cloudy, temporarily marring the look of the wood.

Wooden furniture requires several types of cleaning to keep it secure and looking amazing.

For the best results, apply thin coats and carefully operate each amount into the timber surface.

If you take proper care of your new timber furniture, then it will last you a long time.  Yet many misconceptions exist about the appropriate way to wash this kind of home décor.  As a beginning point, it's always sensible to ask the salesperson at the time of buy exactly what their recommendations are.  Salespeople are knowledgeable about the appropriate cleaning techniques and solutions that are safe to be used on the precise item that you are bringing into your home, so they are the best resource to consult as a starting point.

Feather dusters have long been a beloved tool for people wishing to whisk dust from their furniture and other household furnishings.  They're a superb tool to use on items which are fragile or hard to wash using a cloth.

I also purchased some semi-gloss paint to match the leather seats I bought...you need to either acquire semi-gloss or satin finish paint if you're redoing something which will observe a lot of traffic such as a kitchen table or coffee table.

I then simply painted the primer and sew!

Both soft fabrics made from old t-shirts and terry cloth towels can be used to remove dust from your wooden furniture securely.  For best results, dampen the cloths very slightly.  The minimal quantity of moisture causes the dirt to cling to the fabric.

Cost only $75 on UsedVic!  Awesome deal!

Most wooden furniture receives a coating of varnish, polyurethane, or shellac prior to leaving the maker.  This procedure will help to protect it against wear and abuses.  These types of surfaces are well-suited to getting an application of a furniture wax to preserve the finish and add an additional layer of protection.

Luckily no tears were shed thanks to fellow UsedEverywhere blogger Andrea Tomkins!   She recently wrote a blog post about a girl who refinished these beautiful classic doors and turned them into headboards.  And instead of having to strip and sand the doors of the nasty paint job, she simply painted them with an all in one oil primer.   I'd never heard of such a product before but ends up you can purchase it everywhere now.  Do not you just love evolving technology??

I brought the table house and called my mom who told me that I would need to resand the entire table prior to painting.   This sounded hard, tedious and just plain frightening.   I pictured myself sanding the table so far down that it would crack and I would crack and cry for destroying it.   Not fun in any way!

Did you know that you can make a cleaner that is among the most effective procedures for cleaning along with protecting your precious wooden furniture?   Simply add a little of this mixture to a clean, soft cloth and use it to buff your own furniture into a gorgeous glow.
