Furniture wax

Fortunately no tears were shed thanks to fellow UsedEverywhere blogger Andrea Tomkins!   She recently wrote a blog post about a girl who refinished these beautiful classic doors and turned them into headboards.  And instead of having to sand and strip the doors of the ugly paint job, she just painted them with an all in one oil primer.    Do not you just enjoy evolving technology??

Deeper cleaning

I headed outside to Home Depot and purchased some CIL Smart Any Where Primer that will bond to any surface.   There were a few other brands too that I think would also do the job.  I then painted the kitchen table using the primer and allow it to dry.

Most wooden furniture receives a coating of varnish, polyurethane, or shellac prior to leaving the manufacturer.  This process will help to protect it against wear and abuses. Unfinished oak table top These types of surfaces have been well-suited to getting an application of a furniture wax to keep the finish and add an additional layer of security.

I brought the table house and called up my mom who told me that I would need to resand the entire table prior to painting.   This sounded difficult, dull and just plain scary.   I pictured myself sanding the table so far down that it would crack and then I would crack and cry for destroying it.   Not fun in any way!

Now I just need to find the time to assemble it and put it in my kitchen!

In the same vein, water and wood are mortal enemies.  Should your wooden furniture become dirty or tacky, you may, naturally, need to remove the offensive elements.  Under those circumstances, combine a small amount of dish soap and warm water and gently work it into the area until it is gone.   Nonetheless, these types of beams are formulated to help furniture keep a high gloss shine.  While the finish is appealing, it makes the furniture quite slippery and provides no actual protection for the timber itself.

The guys at HD explained that I just needed to cover it once and it didn't matter if it was not solidly painted...it only needs to be around there for the next paint to stick to.

It is important to follow the manufacturer's instructions to properly use the wax, otherwise it may lead to build-up or seem cloudy, temporarily marring the look of the wood.

Since I was feeling rather good about myself and my DIY abilities, I decided I'd tackle a project that's been sitting in my basement for the past couple of months, hammering me.  I bought a really fine solid oak kitchen table out of UsedVic and I intended to repaint it to match these new leather dining chairs I purchased (could not find any used but acquired these on super sale, naturally ).   I wouldn't normally even think about taking on such a catchy DIY furniture challenge but that I just can not bear the look of that flimsy, non-wood material that cheap dining sets are made out of these days.  They are so light my five year old nephew Noah could probably hoist one over his head....he's pretty powerful anyways.

Now I can confidently walk into the Vancouver Island Mini Maker Faire this weekend with my head held high, knowing that I do have a little DIY in me .    That is right...painted it!   And it looks absolutely wonderful!  (Here's a teaser before pic of the couch)

For best results, apply thin coats and attentively operate each level into the wood's surface.   Once the wax has properly dried, after that you can use a soft cloth to buff the wax into a brilliant glow.

Then I simply painted over the primer and sew!

From time to time, it's essential to treat your wooden furniture into a deep cleaning.  The easiest way to do this is by taking advantage of an oil-based soap along with a small amount of water.  Employ a slight coating of this oil soap into your own table then wash it thoroughly and wash well.  If dirt and accumulation still stays, it may be necessary to gently wash the surface with steel wool enhanced using a solvent designed to remove grime, taking care to not scratch the wood or its end.

Did you know that you can make a cleaner yourself that is among the most effective methods for cleaning and protecting your precious wooden furniture?  To eliminate accumulation, dust, and grime from the furniture, simply make a mixture of olive oil, denatured alcohol, gum turpentine, and lemon juice in equal parts.  Just put in a little of the mix into a clean, soft cloth and use it to buff your own furniture to a beautiful shine.

Wood can damage very easily, so it is important to pick a product that will not destroy the surface of your furniture.  To this end, it's never a fantastic idea to purchase a cleaner that is tagged as an"all purpose" alternative.  It is generally too abrasive or contains compounds that aren't friendly to wood.

I also purchased some semi-gloss paint to match the leather chairs I purchased...you need to either get semi-gloss or satin finish paint if you're redoing something that will see a lot of traffic such as a kitchen table or coffee table.

Many businesses also produce disposable soft cloths which are especially treated to clean wood surfaces.  The benefit to these kinds of cloths is that they attract and trap dirt, making them simple to use.  Most importantly; after you're finished cleaning, you may simply throw the cloth away.

Though dust seems innocent enough, it's an airborne particle that should not removed frequently can lead to buildup on your wooden furniture, leaving unsightly scratches in the surface.  There are several distinct things you can use to remove dust from your favourite wooden couch, chair, end table, or dining room set.

Though not as popular a choice, dusters made from lamb's wool are highly effective at removing dirt from elaborate wooden pieces of furniture that could be tricky to clean.  Lamb's wool is frequently treated with as substance called lanolin which traps and holds dust.  Many of these kinds of cleaners can be attached to a handle, allowing you to wash high up pieces like armoires or hutches.

Many families are drawn to it as it is attractive and functional, but it is also rather costly.  To make sure that your furniture stays looking good as new, it's very important to learn how to look after it correctly.  Since wood and water are natural enemies, any stains or dirt that land on your new wooden furniture has to be eliminated without the use of water to defend the integrity of their finish and the wood itself.  But life is messy, along with your wood furniture is going to get dirty.  What is the safest way to clean good wood furniture?

If you take proper care of your new timber furniture, then it will last you a very long moment.  However, many misconceptions exist about the proper way to wash this type of home décor.  As a starting point, it is always wise to ask the salesperson in the time of buy exactly what their recommendations are.  Salespeople are knowledgeable about the appropriate cleaning techniques and solutions that are safe to be used on the precise item that you are bringing into your home, so they're the best resource to consult as a starting point.

Though many individuals used to make use of goods that contain linseed oil, turpentine, or coconut oil, we now know that these substances will lead to wood to intensify in colour and will also bring lint or dust.  They can also potentially make the finish on your wood furniture to dissolve, and so, should be avoided.

Here are the types of cleaning you will need to do along with some advocated cleaners and techniques for getting the job completed:

Both soft fabrics made from older t-shirts and terry cloth towels may be used to eliminate dust from your wooden furniture safely.  For optimum results, soften the fabrics very marginally.  The minimal quantity of moisture causes the dirt to cling to the fabric.
